This species of bamboo will grow to around 4 meters tall when mature, which is pretty impressive for a clumping bamboo. Dark canes, almost purple in colour sometimes, make this bamboo a very attractive bamboo to have in the garden.
 
Its clumping properties mean that it will only spread around 1m each way, however this takes a long time and is easily manageable.
